Heck, Frank's old generator was louder than a MotoGP bike.

Hell yea I'm serious.
I've only been here since '96, so I have not had to read the rule book. But I have not seen anyone yet with a db meter running around.
Is there a limit, and if so, what is it?
And we could experiment first. Everyone could go out to their garage tonight at, say, about 11:30 pm. and rev up their bikes with no cans. And we'll see what it sounds like. I already tried mine twice this week. My neighbors 2 miles away loved it.
I am hereby, officially asking permission to run an open megaphone on my CMRA race bike.
I guess askin' permission is easier than asking forgiveness.

I am with Mark on this, I think it will add something special to the racing. I know the LSTD endurance bike is loud even with an exhaust and when I was corning working I loved when that thing came by.

Like Homer Simpson said "When I hit the accelerator I don't want it to just be loud, I want people to think the whole world is coming to an end".

And I'm not capable of converting my bike's power to maximum speed. That seems so wasteful and inefficient.
At least we could convert that leftover horspower to noise, smoke, or fear. In a way, it's like saving fuel.

I am SO down with doing that... That "muffler" on the moose really ruins the true potentional exhaust tune of that bike.. I would love to hear it on a 1000.. Every person I have passed, which is everyperson on a mini, Has said they LOVE to get hear that thing come up behing them.. So why now quadruple the displacement and see what it sounds like..

I'm sorry, I have a caviot with this....

At the 6 hour,(mini) a couple bikes lost their silencers, it was ear BLEEDING miserable on hot pit.

If it's that loud, I say no.

I'll give 50 bucks to the first four-stroke mini team that wins their endurance class(in 2006) with an open megaphone.

How beautiful would that sound, half a dozen bikes with open exhaust. Especially at TWS with it resinating off of the wall on the front stretch. /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Maybe we could put some whistle tips on the exhaust too... Long live Bubb Rubb!!!

Could you imagine doing a 1+ hour stint on a big bike with an open exhaust? I think I would faint from the excessive blood loss out of my ears. :p

If you decide you must have some I'll make them for anyone, as a custom set, for $1200, any bike, Y2K compliant, with special magnetic flow alignment devices for that extra 0.00001% of power. Hmmm... now what did I do with my hack saw?

The CMRA BOD has discussed this issue and voted no to the megaphone or no mufflers. The track owners have enough problems with residents that live close to the tracks now. We don't need to add to these problems. I hope everyone understands. Norm

Yeah all joking aside we would not want to do run open exhausts. When you push the limits in a situation like this (being too loud), someone outside of the organization will complain, and we might be forced to formally adhere to a level of noise reduction that will have us all running street mufflers.

The 'pendulum of change' is a difficult thing sometimes. If we swing too far to the right (too noisy) then it wil probably swing back too far to the left (too quiet).

Well, this doesn't hurt my feelings at all. At one endurance race one of the big bikes had a muffler that came off. Not fun, either in the pit or being near the bike on the track.

Guess I need to be signed up for "Impending Geezerdom"
