Hey,

How about a thread generating constructive tips for Speedvision? I'll copy the whole thing and send it to them.

I'll start:

1) Don't reveal the results of other races during the current race commentary. Fans are less likely to tune in when they know the result. That happened twice this last weekend.

2) I understand that you are dropping 'reaired' races. How about initially airing races closer to the event. Fans are less likely to tune in when then event was 3-6 weeks ago and they know the result.

3) Please adhere to your schedule when possible. If the scheduled start time is 2:00, don't start at 2:20. Official (rain etc) delays are understood.

4) Give Greg's garage it's own time slot if it warrants it. Please don't take away from actual track time coverage for it.

5) Please don't take away from actual track time coverage for commercials for motorcycle racing on Speed. We know what we're watching and which channel we're watching.

6) Please don't cover the racing with the graphics.

7) Please limit the 'human interest' shots in the pits and post-crash. We're tuning in to see the racing, not the racer's girlfriend, wife, or pit crew. It's good to know that a crashed rider is okay but we don't need to see the corner workers struggling with the bike for 30 seconds.

8) Please do post-race interviews whenever possible (see above re: freeing up time).

Anyone else?

Nick

How about.

Thank you speed for giving what you can despite the huge sucking noise motorcycles makes in your wallet. Showing the bikes is as close to charity as you can get without writing it off on your taxes and we appreciate the opportunity to see a little rather than none at all.

Or should we whine about how millions of people are wrong and Nascar really isn't a revenue building endeavor with an enormous fan base??

Sorry, that post sounded real negative.

I just think this horse has been beaten into oblivion, and the result is always the same.

It is about $$$$$$

and motorcycles don't bring any to the channel.

SPEED,
Please consider the time slots your replays of motorcycle events have been aired on before deciding that they should be cancelled. (i.e. Moto GP at 3 in the afternoon...)

Please continue to diversify the motorcycle events you choose to show. (We miss Motorcyclist Magazine)

Please give greater emphasis to motorcycle highlights and results in your SPEED News programming, since NASCAR has it's own results shows airing just before or after.

Please start some kind of show dedicated to motorcycle racer news and interviews (ALA Greg's Garage) to compliment the other racer profile type shows and free up air time for the actual race when it airs.

Please continue to show the wide variety of motorsports you always have.

Thanks for being the SPEED CHANNEL!

I'll be totally honest. The only reason I even subscribe to digital cable is so that I can watch MotoGP, AMA, and World Superbike on Sundays and 2 Wheel Tuesdays. Please don't take away the 2 things I look forward to each week. Motorcycle racing is growing in the number of viewers and participants, just be patient. Also, we need MotoGP, 500's, to be aired at a better time rather than 3:00pm. I can get off work early, but not that early.

From what I've read on the speed BBS, the MC stuff IS winning converts/fans. That's what I'd like to thank Speed for, helping our sport grow. I know they've been cutting back, but Mark's right, they don't get the ratings with the MC stuff. Anything they can do for us is appreciated. I, too, only have Speed for the MC stuff. I couldn't care less about cages, NASCAR or otherwise, don't watch it, even though I have a lot of respect for IRL, F1, Cart, etc as motor sports. I have very little respect for NASCAR. I don't think NASCAR is helping the sport so much as some think, not our end of it. They get all the coverage, all the money. They're hogging the resources from the rest of us. Fortunately, MC specific businesses, of course, support MC racing, but other companies that might go with the ratings. Tide, Viagra, whatever, couldn't care less about ths sport, they're about advertizing and getting the most for their advertizing dollar.

I'll ditto what the rest of you said: better times for the replays, if you manage to keep them on, etc.

Only addition I would make is that if Speed is U.S.-based (it is, right?), then it would be nice to hear a word or two about Colin and Nicky during the MotoGP races. Seems like a comment or two about whether they're moving up or down in the middle of the pack would be warranted. As far as drawing in new converts, it might help for people to realize that there are a couple of good ol 'Mericans in there battling as well. Maybe even a little human interest piece during the pre-race. I would gamble and say that Nicky's Owensboro, KY background could go right up against the best good ol' boy NASCRAP piece you could find.

Sorry guys, but if we want more mc racing on the tube, then we need to get other folks watching it. And a lot of the time, that requires folks to develop some kind of personal attachment to the people involved.

Mark</div></div>Mark, that was perfect. Seriously. So many folks on this and other m/c forums whine and complain about speed channel. This is the only resource that i know of for m/c racing. I'm happy with what they give. Beat it enough, and maybe it'll go away. that should make those whiners really happy now.

This post was titled "Constructive comments for Speedvision", sounded more like "Your programming sucks, so let me tell you what you should show and when and how many commercials you should play." I guess I missed the "Constructive" part. /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif
