Addendum 4 to the 2009 Rule Book is now posted here (http://www.cmraracing.com/pdf/2009/CMRA%202009%20Rule%20Book%20Addendum%204.pdf) or the entire Rule Book with all addenda is posted here (http://www.cmraracing.com/pdf/2009/CMRA_2009_Rule_Book%20_12-31.pdf).

To date, carbon fiber or composite wheels have been a perfectly legal alternative in CMRA classes allowing aftermarket wheels. With this rule change, CF and non-alloy composite wheels are prohibited with an exception to ‘grandfather’ wheels to complete the 2009 season with Race Director Approval. CF and non-alloy composite wheels will be prohibited in all circumstances for the 2010 season.

This decision is because, in comparison to metal alloys, CF has a greater potential to suffer significant structural damage that may not be readily detectable during track-side post-crash inspections. The provision to complete the 2009 season with CF wheels requires specific notice to the Race Director in order to allow inspection and consideration of the use-history and other factors relating to the specific CF wheels proposed for continued use before approval is granted.

IMHO, we again see how fortunate we are to have Walter Walker as our Race Director. He quickly applies learned experience to help maximize safety of racers while finding ways to balance both short-term and long-term interests of all.
